Anatomy in 3 Dimensions

a new way to learn anatomy so you'll never forget

K.O. Pilates — Prather, California | July 17, 18 & 19, 2026

In this three-day immersive, we’ll build the body layer by layer, using clay on a to-scale skeleton to study where muscles live, how they connect, and what they actually do. It’s a hands-on, highly practical way to understand movement—one that stays with you long after the weekend ends.

GOB-DLE-DY-GOOK...

I sat for hours watching mind-numbing slides and videos, memorizing confusing Latin names, origins, and insertions, and I was still confused. I couldn't see the big picture. I was frustrated and overwhelmed.

It was maddening. I wanted to learn anatomy.

I felt a responsibility to understand how the body worked. My teachers told me to trust the work - that it was all in there. Joe did the investigation for me - just teach pilates, follow the formula, and you'll be fine. Which I was.

My ever-curious, puzzle-solving mind needed to know. How does the body move? How do the muscles work together? And why is Pilates so effective?

I wanted more control and understanding of the choices I made for my students. And for that, I needed a deeper understanding of Anatomy.

I studied diligently at night, made flashcards, and developed mnemonics. Only nothing stuck. A few weeks after a class ended, I forgot everything.

The problem was that the anatomy courses I took were boring. I struggled to see how the body worked as a whole, how it translated from a two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional form.

I needed a course where I could feel the muscles, see the volume, and feel how they attached and worked with other muscles. I wanted to know how everything connected as a larger system, experience its action, and, most importantly, see how I could use that knowledge to teach Pilates more effectively.

That's when I discovered Anatomy in Three Dimensions

With AI3D you build the body from the inside out - with clay

Suddenly, the structure and function of bones, joints, muscles, and tendons make sense. You trace the path of each muscle to understand how it functions because you physically attach it to yourself. You see the architecture of the body in a whole new way because you layer the muscles onto the bones - and then put it all into context with Pilates exercises you already know.

It's a multisensory, tactile experience you can use right away in your teaching.

And you get to play with clay.

(My inner artist was squealing with joy the entire workshop.)

About the Course

You'll learn the structure and function of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments - and the origin, insertion, and action of the major muscles of movement - by building them yourself on a specially designed skeleton. There is no better way to learn anatomy. You'll experience each muscle group in action and connect what you're building directly to functional movement and Pilates exercises.

This course covers the body from the knees through the shoulders (the lower leg and arm are covered in additional courses).

No Prerequisites. Course manual included. 16 NCPT CEC

As small bricks are employed to build large buildings, so will the development of small muscles help develop large muscles. Therefore, when all your muscles are properly developed, you will, as a matter of course, perform your work with minimum effort and maximum pleasure.

About Me

Hi, I'm Karen — and I have been completely obsessed with Pilates for 35 years.

I've been teaching for 30 of them, and I'm still as in love with this work as I was on day one.

I'm a classically trained teacher, and I've had the incredible privilege of spending over 25 years studying with master teacher Jay Grimes and learning directly from the legendary Romana Krysanowska. That lineage is the foundation of everything I teach.

My students are smart, dedicated Pilates teachers who are ready for more — ready to move beyond following a formula and into a real, deep understanding of the work. I take your natural talents and big Pilates dreams and bring three decades of experience, research, and a touch of magic to help you find your unique voice, hone your skills, and step into the teacher you were always meant to be.

I believe with everything I've got that you can follow your passion to teach Pilates and build a career that is as rewarding as it is successful.

You were born to do this work. I'm just here to help you own it.
